Roadworks
From time to time the safety camera partnership is asked by the highways authorities to assist with speed enforcement at roadworks where there are seen to be safety hazards requiring traffic to be slowed down for the safety of all road users.
Current roadwork sites:
An average speed safety camera system will be operating throughout the upgrading roadworks on the A80 from the end of October 2009 until the completion of the project in 2011. The system will be enforcing the temporary speed limit of 40mph.
There is clear entrance and repeater signage in place for the speed limit, vehicle activated signs to warn individual drivers exceeding the limit and warning signs for the operation of average speed cameras. While almost all drivers are responsibly heeding the message to curtail their speed, there are still some drivers who will not comply and will face fines and penalty points for their actions that endanger the safety of roadworkers and all other road users. In the first three months of the camera system being live, action was taken against 26 speeders detected by the cameras.
