SPECS CONTINUES TO REDUCE A77 CASUALTIES

Three year report says that casualties and crashes have been reduced significantly on the A77, thanks to the SPECS average speed safety camera system.

A report issued on 30 October 2008 by the A77 Safety Group shows a reduction of 37% in crashes involving death or serious injury over the past three years since the SPECS system was installed.

Hugh McCafferty of Transport Scotland, and chair of the A77 safety Group, commented: These figures are very good. SPECS has clearly played a key part in reducing accident numbers and that is why the cameras will remain in place now that the pilot period is complete.
