SPEED LIMIT REMINDERS FOR DRIVERS
Drivers in Glasgow and South Lanarkshire are to be given a gentle reminder of the speed limits that apply on our roads whenever they stick a car park ticket to their windscreen.
The stickers, which show the speed limits for built-up areas, single and dual carriageway ’open roads’ and motorways for cars and vans, have been commented on positively by drivers when used in the past. They will be widely distributed in car parks throughout these areas and are just one one the wide range of ieducational materials produced by the Partnership.
An awareness survey carried out in the Spring showed that there is a worrying lack of knowledge of speed among experienced drivers.
Chief Inspector Andy Orr of Strathclyde Police commented: Speed limits are there for the purpose of road safety and it is important that drivers comply with them. It is very disturbing to think that many motorists just don’t know what these limits are. Everyone needs to know how to read the road signs in order to pass their driving test and there is a continuing responsibility to keep up this knowledge.
“The Highway Code sets out the rules to keep us all safe on the road and I would advise all drivers to read it occasionally – and follow its instructions.
