THE MESSAGE SAYS SLOW DOWN
Three new vehicle activated signs at key locations around East Dunbartonshire will give drivers the message to slow down if they detect that they are driving at more than 30mph.
The Strathclyde Safety Camera Partnership, working with East Dunbartonshire Council, will install the three solar powered vehicle activated signs over the next few months. They will be located at:
• Woodhill Road in Bishopriggs
• Balmore Road at Bardowie
• Waterside Road between Merkland Drive and Iona Way in Kirkintilloch
Gladys Cadden of the Strathclyde Safety Camera Partnership, said, “Because of the history of collisions at these locations, they are already sites for periodic speed enforcement by safety camera vehicles. However, the new smart signs will operate at all times to get the message across to drivers who drive too fast that they need to slow down.
“We hope that motorists will pay heed in the interests of every road user’s safety. For drivers who persist in speeding we will still have the mobile cameras in use.”
Councillor Billy Hendry, Convener of the Council’s Development & Environment Committee, is pleased that the signs will further improve road safety in the area.
He said, “I welcome the decision of the Safety Camera Partnership to locate signs at these three sites across the area. The signs are simple yet effective in making drivers think about their behaviour when they are behind the wheel.
“The Council will continue to work with the Partnership with the aim of making the roads in East Dunbartonshire safer for drivers and pedestrians.”
