New Drivers

1 in 5 new drivers will have an accident in the first year alone. The New Drivers Act aims to reduce the number of road deaths and injuries. It’s similar to being ’on probation’ for two years from the time you pass your driving test. If you get a total of six or more penalty points during this time for offences such as speeding, it means that you’ll have to go back to being a learner, and will have to apply for a provisional licence and take the test again.

Over 17,000 new drivers had their licences revoked in 2010.
